Maisie Williams recently spent a full 24 hours with the Vogue team, during which she gave her fans a behind-the-scenes look at her Paris Fashion Week agenda with boyfriend Reuben Selby.
In the 10-minute video, the Gae of Thrones star expressed gratitude for being able to have more control over her fashion choices now that she doesn’t spend the bulk of each passing year shooting new episodes of Game of Thrones.
“When you’re a young actress, it’s really exciting and you want to look really grown-up,” she said, per Complex. “I was really conscious not to do that at the beginning of my career because even though I was like 16 [or] 18, I was still looking like 12, 14. So that’s really powerful when you’re an actor and playing younger is one of your most valuable things.”
Williams then spoke on the difficulties of the Arya Stark role, particularly in Season 2 and 3.
“My body started to mature and I started to become a woman but Arya was still very much trying to be disguised as a boy,” she recalled. “I had really short hair and they constantly covered me in dirt and shaded my nose so it looked really broad and I looked really manly. They also put this strap across my chest to, like, flatten any growth that had started and, I don’t know, that just felt horrible for six months of the year and I felt kind of a bit ashamed for a while.”
Now, Williams added, “it’s nice to look more feminine and have a real waistline and embrace the body that I have.”
